The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 189) allows employers to fill a permanent position within their business in Australia by sponsoring a foreign worker who meets the job requirements. This visa offers a pathway for foreign workers seeking permanent residency in Australia through employer sponsorship. The sponsorship will be based on the employee’s skills, occupation, qualifications, and experience. Other 186 visa requirements include:
- Being under 45 years of age
- English language proficiency.
- Be of good character and health.
Applicants who are outside Australia or who are living and working in Australia on a temporary visa can apply if they meet the requirements. The successful Subclass 186 visa holder would be granted permanent residency status, allowing the visa holder and their families to live, work, and study in Australia. Other benefits include:
- Access to Medicare services
- Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
- Sponsor family to come to Australia (if eligible)
You can apply for this visa under one of the three streams:
The Direct Entry Stream
For applicants with 3 years of work experience in an occupation that is listed on the list of eligible skilled occupations.
The Labour Agreement Stream
For applicants who are currently working or will work for a nominating employer who is party to a labour agreement.
The Temporary Residence Transition Stream
For applicants currently in Australia, who hold a 457, 482 or related bridging visa A, B, or C, and have remained with the same employer for at least 3 years before submitting your application.
